Meeting for all Manitoba Games Teams
A team meeting will be held for all Sailing participants (athletes, managers and coaches) hosted by Sport Manitoba on Monday, July 4th at 7:00 p.m. in the conference room at 145 Pacific Ave in Winnipeg . All athletes and one parent should be in attendance. We will answer all questions you might have and will give out the team uniforms.
About the Power Smart Manitoba Games
SAILING- PHASE 1
The Games are divided in two phases and the sailing event will take place in phase I from August 7-9. Host for sailing will be the West Hawk Lake Yacht Club and the event will be taking place at the main beach in West Hawk. The athletes and coaches will be transported by bus from the athlete’s village in Steinbach each day to West Hawk Lake.
EVENT CLASSES AND AGE ELIGIBILITY
Laser Radial male 13 – 17 years of age
Laser Radial female 13 – 17 years of age
Optimist male 10 – 14 years of age
Optimist female 10 – 14 years of age
Windsurfing open 10 – 17 years of age
The athlete must be over 10 years of age and under 18 years of age for the date of the Manitoba Games in 2016.
The actual sailing event is three days long. The fee for the qualifiers is $30 and the qualified athletes will pay a registration fee of $150 for the Games, which includes accommodation, transportation, coaching, food and the provincial championships.
Participation in the Power Smart Manitoba Games begins with regional qualifying events. Regional teams of approximately 200 athletes, coaches, managers and mission staff go on to participate in the Provincial Finals.
Sailing has been organizing qualifying regattas for each of the regions. They last set of qualifiers will be held on June 1 at the Winnipeg Sailing Centre, June 5, 2016 at the Falcon YC and June 17 in Dauphin. The qualifiers will be held in the same format as the actual Summer Games competition. The top girls and top boys in each event from each region will be selected for the team. After the athletes have been selected, we offer lots of training opportunities in each region leading up to the Games. Once you are qualified for a region you can participate at the weekly training at the Winnipeg Sailing Centre at Fort Whyte Alive in Winnipeg in June or at training camps at Pelican Yacht Club and Gimli Yacht Club in July 2016.
